A Software Handover Checklist: What You Should Receive
Everything a client should receive when a project ends or changes hands, so you stay in full control of your software.

Whether a project is finishing, moving to an in-house team, or changing partners, a proper handover ensures you keep full control of your software. Use this checklist to make sure nothing is missing.
Code and assets
- Full source code in a repository your business owns
- Design files and brand assets
- Any scripts used for data migration or maintenance
Accounts and access
- Admin access to hosting, cloud, and database accounts
- Domain names and DNS settings in your name
- App store developer accounts in your name
- Third-party service accounts, such as email, payments, and analytics
- Secure transfer of credentials, followed by rotation where appropriate
Documentation
- Architecture overview
- Setup and deployment instructions
- Description of environments, such as staging and production
- List of external services and their purpose
- Known issues and technical debt
- Important business rules and decisions
Operations
- Monitoring and alerting configuration
- Backup schedule and restore procedure
- Running costs and billing details
Knowledge transfer
- Walkthrough sessions with the incoming team
- A period of support for questions after handover
You should be able to hand your software to any competent team without starting over.
Plan it from the start
The easiest handovers are planned from day one: accounts created in the client's name, documentation kept current, and standard technologies used throughout.
At MOKRIN, clients own their code and designs once paid for, accounts are set up in the client's name, and we support handovers fully when the time comes.
