15 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Software Development Agency: Business article by MOKRIN Technologies

Agencies can look similar from their websites. The difference shows up in how they answer specific questions. Use this list in your first calls and compare the answers side by side.

About understanding your project

  • What do you need to know from us to give an accurate estimate?
  • What would you leave out of the first version, and why?
  • What risks do you see in this project?

About process and communication

  • How is the work broken into stages, and what do we receive at each one?
  • How often will we see working software?
  • Who will be our main point of contact, and how quickly do they usually respond?
  • How do you handle changes to scope once the project has started?

About quality

  • How do you test the software before it reaches users?
  • Do you review each other's code?
  • How do you handle security and protect user data?

About ownership and continuity

  • Who owns the source code, designs, and intellectual property when the project is paid for?
  • Will you sign a non-disclosure agreement?
  • If we later work with a different team, how easy will the handover be?

About after launch

  • What support do you offer once the software is live?
  • How do you handle bugs found after launch?

What good answers sound like

Good answers are specific and honest. "We demo working software regularly and send short written updates" is better than "we use agile". "Here is what we would cut from version one" shows they are thinking about your budget. An agency that says "we will figure that out later" about ownership or support is a risk.

Specific answers to specific questions are the clearest signal of an experienced team.

Compare more than price

Lay out the answers next to each quote. The cheapest option often excludes testing, design, or post-launch support, which you will pay for later. The best value is the partner whose plan you understand and whose answers you trust.

At MOKRIN we welcome these questions in the free consultation. Clients own their code and designs once the work is paid for, we sign NDAs on request, and we offer support after launch.
